Lowe's Australian & Polish Genealogy

Welcome to our genealogy site!
We are Patrick & Irene Lowe from Perth, Western Australia and
we've been interested in genealogy since we were married (all of 12 years).

Patrick's family has a long heritage in Australia with his great-great-great grandfather ,
William Thomas Pether, being one of the early settlers to Western Australia arriving in 1838.

My family stems from Poland and isn't as widespread as Patrick's,
but with your help maybe we can remedy that.

Some of the surnames we are researching:

Click on each of the names to find out about family movements,
other researchers & other web sites.

LOWE
Originally from Manchester, England.  This family includes a twice-awarded Military Cross Winner.
LONG
This family stems from Norwich & Norfolk in England, and then emigrated to New Zealand and Australia. Check out the story of George Henry William Long and his involvement in local government in Western Australia.
PETHER
Originally from Oxford, England, this family's characters include the famous Lord Nuffield, William Richard Morris, who built his business empire in the Morris Motor Company. Also includes the story of William Thomas Pether, who was one of the first settlers to Western Australia in 1838.
TROUCHET
This family fled from Normandy, France during the French Revolution to Mauritius, where they became notable in society. Includes a famous chemist in Western Australia.
GRATWICK
Originally from Woolwich, Kent, the family emigrated to South Australia and then to Western Australia.  Members of the family include Percy Gratwick, a Victoria Cross winner in WW2.
ELLIOT
A very interesting part of the family! Originally from Roxburghshire, Scotland, the Elliots are well-known Border Reivers. The Reivers were known as horse thieves as well as other forms of skullduggery in order to keep their land.
MINCHAM
From Hampshire, England and the Isle of Wight, it is said that anyone named Mincham has to be related. The name is well-known in South Australia and Western Australia.
DAY
From the Isle of Wight, two Day sisters married a Mincham and a Jacobs.
JACOBS
An exceedingly interesting family from the Isle of Wight whose descendants in South Australia are so many, they have establised the Jacobs Family Heritage Association.
FOGDEN
A very widespread family in Sussex, England with lots of connections all over the world.  Our Fogden ancestors married into the Elliot family.

If you are interested in the Mincham family, click here to view Ron MacKenzie's web page about the Jacobs Family Heritage Association. The Jacobs & Mincham families are connected through the Day family from the Isle of Wight.
"A very big thanks to Ron for helping us find my great-great-great-great grandparents, Henry & Mary Day."

We have also discovered a great web page for the Clan ELLIOT where you will find information, tartan and coat of arms about this famous Scottish clan. Click here to take a trip there.

Irene's Family

SIEK, MIKOLAJSKI, SKOCZEK, MAJEWSKI, FURMANSKI

I am also doing research into the family of Marshall Edward Rydz-Smigly, who is related to the Mikolajski family by marriage. Rydz-Smigly was the leader of the Polish Army at the outbreak of World War 2. If you have any information on this man, please email me.

To look at our full list of surnames (of which there are many), go here. If you see anyone you recognise, please let us know. Any information is invaluable to us.
We have used the program ged2html to generate this list. We highly recommend it for putting your family tree on the Web.

Once you have generated your list, place it on Genmatch. Genmatch compares online genweb databases looking for matches on a systematic basis. Please include your database in this service as the more matches the better.
